Dinner in the Library

Julia Child Biographer Noël Riley Fitch to Speak

The UC San Diego Library’s popular Dinner in the Library has been set for Friday, September 12, 2014 featuring Julia Child biographer and culinary historian Noel Riley Fitch. The annual fundraising event raises unrestricted funds for Library collections and services.  The proceeds from the event help to maintain the diverse, high-quality information resources and special services that are vital to support the University’s students, faculty, and the regional community.

Fitch, the author of Julia Child’s only authorized biography - Appetite for Life - and a renowned authority on expatriate intellectuals in Paris in the first half of the 20th century, will expand on  her personal experiences with the larger-than-life chef and television personality. In addition to Appetite for Life, which she penned in 1997, Fitch is the author of several other biographies on writers and literary luminaries of Paris during the Hemingway era, including the highly - acclaimed Sylvia Beach and the Lost Generation (1983)and Anais: The Erotic Life of Anaḯs Nin (1993).  She also has written a number of books focusing on the literary cafes of Paris and Europe.
